Strategies forCallAdmission Control inIntegrated ServicesWirelessMobile Networks

2006
Call admission control (CAC)anditseffects onquality ofservice (QoS)forintegrated services wireless networks are studied. A wireless cell withm channels isconsidered. Thecell servesthreedifferent typesofcalls; types1,2 and 3, corresponding tovoice, dataandvideo services respectively. Type icalls require bichannels fortheir service. Thewireless cell serves newlyarriving aswellashandoff customers fromnearby cells. A novelCAC strategy namedGuardChannels with Threshold Strategy (GCTS)isproposed, thesystem ismodeled anditsperformance isevaluated using simulation. Thissystem is compared withthewellknownGuardChannels Strategy (GCS). Itisobserved thatinthecaseoftheguardchannels strategy, newlyarriving or handoffcallswithlargebandwidth requirements areblocked more.Thisunfairness intheguard channels strategy isalleviated toa greatextent bytheguard channels strategy withthresholds. Itisshownthatthedesired performance results canbeobtained atthecostofreduced system utilization. Keywords-cac; integrated services; wireless; mobile networks; handoff
