Capacitance matrix of screened/insulated single-core cables of finite length

2005
Electric cables, such as screened, sheathed or armoured single-core cables have the structure of concentric conductors covered with dielectric materials. This paper presents a moment-method-based procedure to determine the capacitance matrix of finite-long cables with such a structure. In this procedure, the cables are represented by a number of charged cylindrical surfaces, and divided into a set of cylindrical elements along the cable axis. Average potential and electric field equations are then established respectively to build a matrix equation. Close-form expressions are derived for both potential and electric field coefficients. The numerical results for the capacitance matrix of typical cable installations are presented. The numerical validation of this procedure is presented as well.
