Lamb shift in two‐electron atoms: I. The low‐lying S states

Revised values of the Lamb shift in n1,3S states, n≤5, of two‐electron atoms with Z≤10 are obtained, which are based on a simple and effective approximation for the screening correction to the Bethe logarithm for a two‐electron atom. Recent experimental values of the shifts due to Martin are in excellent agreement with the calculations reported here.
