Wave-motion theory based simulation analysis on height of backfill for rear of intake tower

2012
Based on the wave-motion theory, the seismic wave far-field energy dissipation is simulated with the visco-elastic artificial boundary, and then the impact from the height of the backfill for the rear of intake tower on the dynamic response of the tower structure under seismic load is analyzed herein. The position of the interface between the backfilling and the rear of intake tower is just the location of the structural geometric catastrophe, while the height of the backfill for the tower rear has a significant impact on the stress concentration zone of the tower structure. Therefore, there must be a reasonable height for the backfilling of the tower rear, which can not only decrease the amplification effect of seismic load on the tower rear, but also can effectively alleviate the local stress concentration therein and then be favorable to the seismic design of the whole structure concerned.
