Device for playing multimedia data files from a memory device in a car radio

2001
A device is proposed for playing multimedia data files from a memory device in a car radio, which serves to illustrate directories and multimedia files, which are located on the memory device, as data carriers and titles respectively. An input device 8, such as a rocker button, which can be operated both in a vertical and horizontal direction, is used for the purpose of selecting the individual data carriers or titles. If data carriers and/or titles are indicated in a display 4 and no input operation is performed in each case after a specified period of time, titles are automatically illustrated or played. So-called play lists can be produced. Upon inserting a memory device in to a drive 9, the first multimedia data file having the first title in the first data carrier will automatically be decoded and reproduced by a loudspeaker 6. The input device 8 can be used to play titles in a random order sequence. The multimedia data files are coded in MP3. The memory device may be a CD-ROM, DVD, mini disc, hard disc or chip-card. A fixed memory may be provided in addition to the drive 9 and can be a hard disc or semiconductor memory, or optical memory or magneto-optical memory. The device includes a processor 1 and signal processing devices 3. 5 and 7. The input device 8 can be infrared or radio remote control.
