El Primer Proyecto de Coeducación en la Historia de la Enseñanza Secundaria Pública en Chile: el Caso de la Sección Femenina del Liceo de Aplicación (1904-1927)

espanolFundado en 1892 en Santiago de Chile, el Liceo de Aplicacion fue creado para educar exclusivamente a varones, con el proposito servir a la practica de los estudiantes del Instituto Pedagogico (principal institucion formadora de profesores de educacion secundaria entre 1889 y 1981). Sin embargo, poco se conoce que este emblematico establecimiento tambien formo a mujeres. El objetivo de este articulo es problematizar la historia del Liceo de Aplicacion de Ninas, entre 1904 hasta 1927. Metodologicamente, el trabajo se basa en el analisis de la documentacion disponible en el Archivo Escolar del Liceo de Aplicacion y de otras fuentes complementarias. Se demuestra que durante los primeros anos del siglo XX en el Liceo de Aplicacion de Ninas se implemento un proyecto de caracter democratizador, el cual no solo permitio el ingreso de mujeres, sino que tambien las educo en igualdad de condiciones que a varones. Sin embargo, este proyecto de coeducacion fue resistido y tensionado, que se evidencia en la demanda de profesoras y alumnas de impartir la asignatura de Economia Domestica. Lo anterior (junto a otros factores) provoco que el Liceo de Aplicacion de Ninas finalmente se independizara y, con ello, reafirmara su caracter de liceo exclusivo de mujeres. EnglishFounded in 1892 in Santiago de Chile, the Liceo de Aplicacion was created to educate boys, with the purpose of being a teacher training place for students of the Instituto Pedagogico (the main teacher training institution for secondary education between 1889 and 1981). However, it is a little-known fact that this emblematic school also educated female students. The aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristics and implementation of the first coeducation project in the history of Chilean public secondary education, from the case of the Female Section of Liceo de Aplicacion. Methodologically, this paper is based on the analysis of the documentation available in the School Archive of the Liceo de Aplicacion and other sources. The paper demonstrates that during the first years of the 20th century the education authorities implemented a coeducation project in the Liceo de Aplicacion, which allowed the admission of female students as well as offering them an education on equal terms to male students. However, female students and professors criticized and resisted this coeducation project, which is demonstrated by the demand of teachers to teach Domestic Economy, a “feminine subject”. The above - together with other factors - caused the Female Section to finally become independent and, with this, reaffirm its character as a female-exclusive school.
