Abstract The recent passing of the former head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Montpellier University Hospital, professot Boris Vlahovitch, is a time to recall the role he played in developing this surgical specialty in the South of France immediately after World War II, especially in the fields of spinal surgery, functional neurosurgery, and vascular landmark definition in angiographic diagnosis of cerebral tumors.
