The Roles of microRNAs in Multidrug-Resistance Mechanisms in Gastric Cancer

2020
: Gastric cancer is the fourth most common tumor and the second leading cause of cancer-correlated death. Multi-drug resistance is one of the most significant reasons for the chemotherapeutics failure in gastric cancer. Although accumulating investigations and researches have been made to elucidate the mechanisms of multi-drug resistance, the detail is far from completely understood. There are different biological processes such as signal transduction, biochemical pathways, cell differentiation, proliferation, and cell autophagy and apoptosis involving in microRNAs targeted more than one-third of protein coding genes. The importance of microRNAs in cancer chemotherapeutic resistance has recently been demonstrated which provides a new strategy to overcome multi-drug resistance. In turn, the aim of this review was to summarize recent publications of microRNAs in regulating multi-drug resistance in gastric cancer, thereby potentially develop as targeted therapies. Further unraveling the molecular mechanisms of multi-drug resistance will be helpful for us to win the battle against it.
