Correlation Between People’s Opinions on Tobacco Control Policies and Their Political Activity

Many elected officials fear that if they support tobacco control policies, they will lose votes when they run for re-election. This fear is generally unfounded as most public opinion polls show strong support for such policies. If more politically active people are even more supportive of these policies, politicians’ risk in supporting them will be even lower than imagined.
