Nonlinear Light-Matter Interactions: Time-Domain Multiphysics Modeling
2020
Time-domain modeling of optical nonlinear responses is of utmost importance in the understanding and engineering of nonlinear photonic devices. Here, we overview our recent efforts in developing multilevel atomic models for simulating light-matter interaction for various nonlinear materials. Our multiphysics simulation framework couples the rate equations that model excitation and relaxation dynamics within a given material with the Maxwell equations. The framework covers many nonlinear phenomena (e.g., gain, saturable absorption, multi-photon absorption), while also accounting for plasmon-enhancement effects.
