CMB Polarization, the Quiet Experiment, and an Inside View of Gravity Wave Searches in the CMB
2008
We will review the exciting science that becomes accessible in precise measurements of the Polarization of the CMB. The QUIET experiment will be discussed: in its Phase I incarnation data taking in Chile has just begun. Coherent detectors are used to study the possible Inflationary Gravity Wave Background (GWB). This alternative (to TES Bolometers) and still viable approach will be discussed. The challenges in detecting the GWB are formidable- we'll take a little time to consider if the current approach is the ideal one.
