APOCRINE HIDROCYSTOMA IN THE PREAURICULAR REGION: A CASE REPORT
2020
Hidrocystomas are rare benign neoplasias of the eccrine or apocrine sudoriparous glands, in which the ducts are dilated due to retained secretions. They typically present as single cutaneous facial nodules, which are superficial, translucent, and bluish or hyperpigmented; there is no sex predilection, and they are more common in middle-aged patients. This work describes the case of a 61-year-old male patient with an increased soft volume in the left preauricular region, which was slowly growing and asymptomatic with a bluish vesicle on the surface. Punch aspiration expelled a black-colored liquid. Excisional biopsy revealed a 1.7-cm cyst with a thin and translucent wall. Microscopic evaluation showed that it was covered by only 1 layer of columnar cells exhibiting decapitation indicative of apocrine differentiation. The patient returned after 6 weeks, showing no signs or symptoms.
