Insect antifeedant properties of withanolides and related steroids from Solanaceae.

Physalis peruviana shrubs were not attacked by larvae ofSpodoptera littoralis. It was demonstrated that withanolide E, a steroid isolated fromP. peruviana, as well as several related steroids, have insect antifeedant properties.
