Role of Quantitative Planar Thallium-201 Imaging for Determining Viability in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction and a Totally Occluded Infarct-Related Artery

1993
viable myocardium in patients with AMI. In this study, the relationship between the extent ofviable myocardium and thallium uptake on the delayed images was estab lished in three ways. First, average thallium activity within the occluded bed was correlated with regional wall motion in that bed at baseline. Second, the increase in thallium uptake within the occluded bed after attempted angioplasty of the IRA was correlated with improvement in regional function in that bed. Finally, pre-angioplasty thallium uptake in the occluded bed was correlated with wall motion score in that bed after attempted angioplasty.
