A NOVEL CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUE FOR HIGHLY SCATTERING SAMPLES IN FOURIER TRANSFORM INFRARED SPECTROMETRY

1991
The infrared spectra of the scattering dilution materials, using the mixed alkali halide (KBr: CsI=2:3) were developed and provided excellent spectra from highly scattering samples such as coal, coal tar pitch, and petroleum pitch. Low background, high signal to noise ratio (SNR), and high signal to background ratio (SBR) were obtained. The obtained spectra allow detailed structural characterization of heavy hydrocarbons. Furthermore, this method could have high sensitivity in the range of lower concentration.
