Effect of Grounding System on Lightning Performance of Automation Equipment for Distribution System

Remote terminal units and automation switches, referred to as automation equipment, reduce the power failure time of the electricity distribution system in Japan. However, automation equipment contains many electronic circuits, raising concern about its vulnerability to lightning. Therefore, we report experimental results on how the lightning current flowing through automation equipment depends on its grounding system when lightning strikes the distribution system.
