Hypertension in Athletes

2012
Systemic hypertension is the most frequent cardiovascular disease in athletes in spite of regular physical activity, and is associated with a reduction in normal blood pressure levels, with exercise itself representing an important therapeutic intervention for this condition. These conditions require special attention by the clinician both in the initial assessment of an athlete with hypertension, with special emphasis on gender and race, and in its proper therapeutic management.
