Results from a European multicentre evaluation of immunoturbidimetric assays for apolipoproteins AI and B

Two immunoassays for apolipoproteins AI and B were evaluated in 5 European laboratories. The assays are based on the immunoturbidimetric detection of the precipitin reaction between apolipoproteins and specific anti-apolipoprotein antibodies at 340 nm. The measurements with the new reagents were performed on BM/Hitachi 704/717 and COBAS® Mira analysers. In method comparison with automated routine assays, a reasonable comparability was obtained with apo AI, whereas larger discrepancies were found with some of the routine procedures for apo B. The results indicate that the new reagents can be successfully integrated into standard lipid diagnostics performed on clinical chemistry analysers.
