Efficient gas burner design for regenerative furnaces

1997
Until recently, much of the effort and engineering done by the glass industry has been directed toward furnace design. Product quality and production capacity was emphasised because fuel was relatively inexpensive. Burner, block and port design are now more important as their application can have a significant effect on overall fuel consumption, furnace efficiency and emissions control. Efficient combustion depends primarily on the observation of a few key rules in designing both burner and port. The effect of some aspects of burner design and placement is discussed in this article.
