Promotion of selectivity to propene in Mg3 V2O8 catalysts by oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODP)

1996
The main objective of this work is to demonstrate that spill-over oxygen promotes the selectivity to propene on Mg 3 V 2 O 3 during oxidative dehydrogenation of propane. Catalysts containing mixtures of Mg 3 V 2 O 8 +α-Sb 2 O 4 and Mg 3 V 2 O 8 +α-Mg 2 V 2 O 7 have been studied. A correlation of the catalytic activity and selectivity of the catalysts with results of a detailed physico-chemical characterization of the solid state properties (BET, XRD, TEM, AEM and XPS) reveals that neither formation of a new phase nor mutual contamination occurs. The increase in the selectivity to propene observed in both systems is explained by a cooperation between two phases in contact via a remote control mechanism.
