High-strength steel grade 91 and its Russian counterpart - steel 10Х9МФБ designed for the manufacture of power units elements operating at high temperatures, are much less processable than traditional perlite-grade steels and require careful compliance to welding and heat treatment technologies. Operations such as spot welding to the surface or minor deviations from the heat treatment technology that are permissible for products made of perlite-grade steel, become unacceptable for them, since they introduce distortions into the microstructure of the steel and critically reduce its reliability. The article provides examples of the consequences of such actions.
