A method for the detection of melengestrol acetate in beef fat is presented. Crude extracts are purified. Residues in the range 1-100 ppm are quantitated. Mass spectral confirmation is possible without additional cleanup of the sample extract. Test results obtained on Canadian beef heifers for 1982-1984 are presented
