Photovoltaic Based Five Level Inverter With High Gain Dc-Dc Converter

2020
the trend in the energy demand of today's world is in its steady increase, and there is need to arise with new, effective and efficient energy sources. With many renewable energy resources available, its economic and efficient usage is of concern. The upper hand of solar energy over other renewable energy sources makes it applicable in fields of energy production on a wide scale. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) cells are utilized for extracting energy from sun and the tracking is made possible through Maximum Power Point Tracking methods. Perturb and Observe method is used for tracking as its less cost in implementation, smooth to implement and efficient. The tracked solar energy, whose output voltage is too low to be utilized for medium or high voltage applications, a high gain dc-dc converter are used which boost up the voltage of PV to that of a high voltage. Perfect utilization will be fulfilled only if the high dc is converted into ac. Transistor Clamped H Bridge (TCHB) inverter with less power semiconductor devices than conventional Cascaded H Bridge (CHB) is used which provide a five-level output voltage when proper pulsing is provided. The work aims at analyzing the THD of the system when double reference single carrier and single reference double carrier PWM techniques are provided for the pulse generation of the TCHB inverter. Further the system can be connected to single phase grid.
