Analysis on mental health and personality characteristics of new junior high school students in Taian

Objective: To evaluate the mental health and personality characteristics of new junior high school students.Methods: 2460 new junior high school students chosen form 39 classes in 9 middle schools of Taian were surveyed with Mental Health Scale for Secondary School Students(mhs-sss) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)(Children),and the results were compared with the domestic research.Results: 22.91% of the students had mild psychological problems,and 4.06% of thestudents had moderate or severe psychological problems.Maladjustment,psychological imbalance,academic pressure,and paranoia were related to gender.The scores of depression and anxiety of private schools were higher.Personality of the four factor scores were associated with mental health introversion and extroversion and the score of lie were negatively correlated with mental health.Neuroticism and psychoticism were positively correlated with mental health.Conclusion: The mental health problems related to personality characteristics of new junior high schools students can not be ignored.
