As demandas educacionais dos cuidadores de crianças em situações de emergências pediátricas domésticas

The scientific literature discusses more about prevention of Pediatric emergencies than domestic care for children in emergency situations, especially when related to preparation of caregivers for such care. The objectives of this research were to describe the care carried out by caregivers when faced with the following Pediatric emergencies domestic: falls and cuts, burns, intake medicines and substances, and shock; identify the main questions of caregivers in relation to child care in these situations; and analyze the educational demands of caregivers from child care in these situations. This is a qualitative research, descriptive and exploratory. The technique of data collection was through the Group Discussion, with the completion of three Wheels of Conversation. The survey was conducted in the area of Pediatrics 5th floor of a University Hospital of Rio de Janeiro Federal University-bound. Included thirteen subject caregivers, these being: nine mothers, one father; a grandmother; and two aunts. The data were analyzed through content analysis proposed by Bardin (2010). The research was approved by the Committee of ethics in research University Hospital where the study was conducted, with Protocol number 276/11. Considering the Pediatric emergencies domestic situations addressed realized that caregivers have brought in description of how care is performed, the boundary between the error and the right. Because now the familial care is sufficient to meet the child in particular pediatric emergency home and has some scientific explanation. However, the care is not enough to meet the needs of care and knowledge required by certain situations, and is often devoid of any scientific explanation, not the best suited for the situation. In addition, through the questions set out by caregivers and reported as is completion of care, it was possible to understand that they have many questions and identify the educational demand for this theme. So, how much the care that must be performed by caregivers to the child who suffers these types of accidents, realize that there is still a popular and familiar very strong issue in what would be the right conduct to perform at those times. Through the educational demand identified realized the importance of health literacy achievement of these caregivers. Therefore contributes to a new discussion and findings on the subject and encourages the search for a health education process efficient and able to promote the qualification and improvement of nursing as an educator. In addition to enhance the teaching and research in pediatric emergencies situations, and improves the quality of life or prevention of diseases for children.
