Development program for a 200 kW, CW, 28 GHz gyroklystron. Quarterly Report No. 16, January-March 1980

1980
The objective of this program is to develop a microwave oscillator capable of producing 200 kW CW power output at 28 GHz. The use of the gyrotron or cyclotron resonance interaction is being pursued. During this reporting period the basic testing of axisymmetric tube 5R2 was completed. It successfully operated in excess of 200 kW both in pulse and CW modes. The measured power output of 212 kW establishes a new world record for CW power generation at 28 GHz. Further tests with various output guide components simulating the EBTS load were made.
