Control unit for a vehicle drive device, comprising: a torque converter having an impeller, a turbine and a stator, which is rotatably mounted between the turbine wheel and the impeller; an electric motor which is effective to drive the stator and / or to apply a braking to this; a first connection / disconnection means which is operable to connect the electric motor and the stator to each other and to separate from each other; a second connecting / disconnecting means operable to connect the electric motor and an output shaft with each other and separate from each other; and a mode switching means for switching into a first mode in which the held first connection / disconnection means in a connected state to allow the electric motor to control a rotational state of said stator, and in a second mode in which the second connecting / disconnecting means in is held a connected state to allow the electric motor to perform a power running and regeneration, depending on a driving condition of a vehicle.
