A method for loading a traction battery (2), in particular of a motor vehicle to an external AC grid, in particular a three-phase network, said to be loaded traction battery (2) via an inverter (3) with an alternating electric field machine (4) is coupled, wherein the AC network to the phase windings (L1, L2, L3) of the alternating field machine (4) is switchable, whereby the rotational speed of the alternating field machine (4) is synchronized in a first step with the line frequency of the AC network; wherein connected in a second step the AC power to the phase windings (L1, L2, L3) of the alternating field machine (4) and to the alternating-field machine (4) electrically connected inverter (3) is operated as a step-up converter.
