An investigation on mechanical properties in randomly oriented short natural fiber reinforced composites

2020
Abstract Composites are made from a polymer matrix that is reinforced with an engineered, man-made or natural fiber. Nowadays increased environmental awareness and in community interest, has led to maximum use of environmentally friendly materials such as natural fiber i.e. (Parthenium, bamboo, banana, coir, cotton, flax, hemp, jute, sugar cane bagasse and turmeric). Natural fiber is considered one of the environmentally friendly materials which have good properties compared to plastic. Composites with natural fiber are one of the attractive replacements in solving the problem of environmental impact of industries. This paper explores mechanical properties in randomly oriented short natural fiber composites. Different combination of short natural fiber with reinforced plastics and their resultant mechanical behaviours according to their composition were discussed. All the mechanical properties has been determined by performing different tests such as Flexural, Tensile, Compressive, Impact test, on specified machines which are clearly discussed in this paper. This paper also gives briefly information regarding several methods used in manufacturing of different natural fibers reinforced polyester composites. The properties of materials have also been discussed.
