Possible evidence for short‐range 4‐N correlations from (π,γX) reactions

Studies of prompt γ‐ray spectra from pion reaction experiments on 32S and 40Ca performed with a Ge(Li) detector at the SREL synchrocyclotron indicate large cross sections for equivalent‐alpha‐particle removal, and for the 3He removal with shell transfer of the odd neutron. These phenomena are discussed in terms of the evidence they provide for existence of short‐range 4‐N correlations.
