Shigellosis in children

Shigellosis is a common cause of dysentery in children. Preceding measles infection, associated malnutrition, extra intestinal manifestations like pneumonia and bacterial sepsis contribute significantly to the morbidity of the illness. Drug resistance to ampicillin and chloramphenicol is already well documented and the same was observed in the present study also.
