An experimental analysis in time and frequency domain of impulse noise over power lines

2011
Power line communication is seriously impaired by the impulse noise, which will corrupt a burst of transmitted information. Due to the high unpredictability of the impulsive noise, a good knowledge and characterization of such noises is essential for their mitigation to enable high data rate power line communications. This is particularly important for transmission of high speed applications such as high definition video where the impulse noise has a deteriorating effect. In this work, the impulsive noises are directly categorized and measured at source. Based on the measurement of the noise sources in a specified category, time-domain and frequency-domain analysis has been carried out and their characteristic has been summarized.
