Triflylation of 1,4-Benzoquinones with Sodium Trifluoromethanesulfinate

Abstract The iodine-promoted triflylation of 1,4-benzoquinones with cheap and easily available sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate is achieved under mild conditions. A series of aryl triflones were obtained in moderate to good yields. The method could also be extended to triflylation of 1,4-benzoquinone monoamines and perfluoroalkanesulfonylation with sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates.
