Proximity Fed Rectangular Microstrip Antenna Using Parasitic Semi-Circular Shaped Patches

Broadband configuration of proximity fed rectangular microstrip antenna gap coupled with variant of semi-circular-type patches are proposed. Bandwidth and broadside gain obtained for Proximity fed rectangular microstrip antenna is 427 MHz (33%) and 7.64 dBi. Enhancement in impedance bandwidth and gain is achieved by placing rectangular microstrip antenna with semi-circular patches in gap coupled configurations. Structure rectangular microstrip antenna with two contigeous layers of two gap coupled semi-circular patches provides optimum VSWR bandwidth of 953 MHz (64%) with peak gain of 9.38 dBi. Proposed antennas are simpler in implementation and simulated results of proposed antenna are in good agreement with experimental results of fabricated prototype antenna.
