Erosion Properties of WC-Co Coatings by Laser Cladding

2008
WC-12Co coatings were sprayed on low-carbon steel using high velocity oxy-fuel spraying, and then it was laser-claded. The erosion properties of low-carbon steel, spraying coatings and cladding coatings were studied. The results show that the mass loss is the largest at 60° eroding angle. Compared with low-carbon steel and spraying coating, the mass loss of cladding coating is larger at the first erosion stage. With the increase of the eroding times, the mass loss of cladding coating decreases as oxide layer is eroded. The densification of cladding coating is better than that of spraying coating by metallographic study. Hardness of cladding coating is lower than that of spraying coating. It is deduced that the microstructure of coatings is changed by laser cladding , which affects the erosion properties.
