Student Experiments on Teaching the Basic Technologies of M2M and Internet of Things

M2M (machine-to-machine) systems enable machines to communicate with each other without human intervention, allowing the remote monitoring of the environment or ma- chines, and the remote control of various types of equipment. M2M application systems have spread rapidly in various fields, including transportation, healthcare, smart-energy, logistics, city automation, and manufacturing. Sensor network systems are typical applications of M2M systems. M2M systems include emerging technologies such as wireless digital communication, microprocessors, sensor devices, the Internet, and cloud com- puting. Teaching these technologies at universities has there- fore become important. This paper proposes experimental methods for assisting students in understanding the basic ele- ments of M2M technologies by implementing sensor network systems.
