The invention relates to a method for designing an expressway bus system (BHT) based on an expressway service area. In the BHT system, new function expansion design and local transformation are performed on the service area by making full use of the advantages that the expressway is quick and continuous and has a wide radiation area and multiple service areas built along the line have the landmark feature, and an efficient, energy-saving and cost-saving expressway public bus system designing method enabling transfer of passengers in the expressway service areas and connection in the service areas through local bus branches is realized. According to the method provided by the invention, by combining the characteristics of high speed, reliability and scheduled operation of a rail transit-dedicated channel and the characteristics of flexible line and station arrangement of a conventional bus system, an existing region/city-based scattered line operation mode of expressway long-distance passenger transportation is broken through, the carrying cavity, comfort, environmental performance and visual effect of the vehicles for long-distance passenger transportation are enhanced by use of the advanced automobile technology and ITS technology, and the regional railway transportation function is replaced by utilizing the advantages of relatively low construction cost and relatively short construction cycle.
