Measurement and statistical analysis of 1.89GHz radio propagation in a realistic mountain tunnel

2015
Accurate characterization of the radio channel in tunnels is of great importance for vehicle control communications systems. For the purpose of modeling characterizations of this special environment, actual measurements have been carried out at 1.89GHz in Shidao Mountain Highway Tunnel environment. During the measurements, a base station transmitters and a mobile receiver was installed in the tunnel and on a testing car respectively. With an optimum antenna configuration, main propagation characteristics of a complex mountain tunnel environment, including path loss, shadow fading, fast fading, level crossing rate (LCR) and average fade duration (AFD), have been measured and computed. All analysis results have been shown in a complete table for deepening the insight into the propagation mechanism within tunnel environments.
