The DINA System
2015
The DINA consortium is an international collaboration for distributed development of an open-source, web-based information system for managing and sharing natural history collections data. Target datasets include living collections, observation records and molecular data. The DINA system has been designed to support multiple installations and accommodates distributed user and storage management. User interfaces make use of data delivered through web services using a service-oriented architecture, which expose data through web Application Programming Interfaces. Contributed modules include the DINA Data Tool (Denmark), the media server (Sweden), SeqDB (Canada), the PlutoF taxonomy module (Estonia). The software repository is hosted at http://github.com/DINA-Web , and the website for collaborating developers at http://DINA-Web.github.io . DINA-Web is being packaged to simplify deployments into existing virtualized server environments. Open source software infrastructure integration projects are provided and make use of tools like Vagrant to automate and capture all necessary configuration details for all modules.
