: From 470 patients, mainly of respiratory infection, attending University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Nigeria 212 (45 per cent) strains of beta-haemolytic streptococci were isolated and 25 per cent of the isolates belonged to Group B Streptococcus. Percentage isolation of other groups was A(21.2), G(20.3), C(16.1), D(10.8) and F(5.2). Maximum (11.2 per cent) isolates were from age group of 5-17 years.
