Intelligent Vehicle Systems and Cooperative Systems FOTs: Using EuroFOT Operational Experience in Drive C2X

2011
During the last three years, the integrated project euroFOT co-financed by the European Commission has been organizing the first large scale European Field Operational Test (FOT) evaluating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). More than 950 cars with around 1200 drivers in six countries are currently monitored. The issues faced by the project are of various natures: technical, organizational, logistical, legal, management and financial. The project is continuously gathering the experiences of its participants and transforms them into recommendations and guidelines. More recently, DRIVE C2X, another flagship FOT project funded by the European Commission, focuses on the assessment of the benefit of cooperative systems. Official liaison has been established between the two projects ensuring a good transfer of knowledge. EuroFOT has provided a series of deliverables to support the preparation phase of DRIVE C2X. In addition, euroFOT partners have provided an extensive list of recommendation and lessons learned on the preparation, execution and analysis phases of their project. In a more formal manner, euroFOT is actively contributing to the ongoing FOT-Net activities on the revision of the FESTA methodology. This paper provides an overview about these recommendations and lessons learned, and, reflects on their applicability to the evaluation of cooperative systems in DRIVE C2X.
