한국 현대시에 나타난 인천 표상 연구

2019
This paper examines how the place of Incheon is represented and what it means. Investigating the literary and geographic meaning of Incheon in contemporary Korean history or contemporary Korean literature by paying attention to the characteristics of Incheon as a border city, the new study results are enriched by adding new research results to imaginary geography or humanistic geography. At the same time, it seeks to explore new research topics by combining cultural studies with literature studies. In this paper, the works explored were divided into colonial and postliberation ones. Among the works from the colonial period, the works of Kim So-wol, Kim Dong-hwan and Park Pal-yang are examined. These works contain the exotic landscape of the port city of Incheon, along with the poor life and implicit expressions of the wounds of the colony. This characteristic, which may have originated from the geographical characteristics of Incheon, is an expression of the mental scars suffered by the colonial Joseon. The new environment might have given a hope for a new tomorrow, but the loss of the country played an important role in making the reality inevitable. This paper also examined the works of Park In-hwan, Chang Seoknahm and Cheong Ho-seung. Some of their poems, which portrayed Incheon after Korea’s liberation poetically, focus on the tragedy suffered due to the geopolitical nature of Incheon, while others had expectations for the future of reconciliation and coexistence. There is also a scene of tragedy. However, there is a hope that a new future may begin here when the conflict is over. This is where the reflections of the past and the expectations of the future are mixed, which is the characteristic of the poems representing Incheon, and the meaning of Incheon.
