Study on surface structures based on GIS——taking Kuche foreland fold—thrust belt of Talimu Basin as an example

2004
The paper aims at analyzing the characteristics of the surface structures in Kuche area and their relation with the underground structures in this area by using GIS technique. The results show that the main surface structural units present the characteristics of zoning development in S—N direction and segmenting development in E—W direction. It is held that the zones and the segments are controlled by the distribution of the underground major faults, and Kuche river is one of transferring zones in E—W direction. Qiulitake structural belt is divided into two segments in E—W direction under the effect of sinistral fault, the western segment is composed of two anticlines, the southern one and the northern one . The fault of controlling the southern anticline has better continuity, but the fault of controlling the northern one has worse continuity and can be divided to three segments which are sinistrally arranged. The majority of the rivers in Kuche area are obliquely intersecting with the strike of mountains, which indicates some faults thrust with obvious strike-slip movement.
