THE ROLE OF GENDER IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ABUSIVE SUPERVISION AND EMPLOYEES ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOUR IN INDONESIA

2020
The purpose of this paper is twofold; first, to examine the relationship between employee's perception of abusive supervision and their organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) and, second, to investigate the moderating role of gender differences on this relationship. Data were collected from 104 employee's working in an Indonesian hotel through self-report questionnaires. The finding of the study confirms that abusive supervision is negatively related to subordinates' OCB. The study also reveals that women employees OCB lower often than their men counterpart, when they perceive their supervisors to be abusive. The study's implications for theory and practice are discussed, its limitations are identified, and directions for future research are suggested.
