Influence of RE and Mn Additions on Fe-containing Phase in Al-Si Alloys

The effect of RE and Mn on Fe-containing phase in high-Fe ZL102 alloys was investigated.The results show that the addition of Mn element can restrain the long needle-like β-Fe phase and makes a part of that transforms into skeleton or Chinese character like α-Fe phase.Adding RE elements are unable to change the morphologies of Fe-containing phase,but can make the long needle-like β-Fe phase be ruptured.The complex addition of RE and Mn can not only refine the morphologies of Fe-containing phase in alloys,but also transforms needle-like phase into skeleton or Chinese character like phase.
