MHT and ML Approaches to Marine Mammal Detection

2007
This paper applies target-tracking technology to the processing of mammal vocalizations or clicks, with the goal of identifying the number of marine mammals in a surveillance region. This problem has direct application to marine mammal mitigation efforts in the context of active sonar operations. In earlier work, we documented our results in the analysis of hydrophone datasets with detection processing and a nearest-neighbor tracking solution. Here we work with the same datasets and compare results with more sophisticated approaches: MHT-based sequential processing based on the MHT, and batch processing based on the MLPMHT.
