Dinitrile-based Electrolytes for Lithium Ion Batteries

In the present study, electrolytes consisting of EC: DMC: Nitrile ( nitrile = ADN, PMN, SUN and SEN) with LiBF4 and LiBOB as co-salts were evaluated for lithium-ion batteries. LiBF4 was chosen as an alternative salt to LiTFSI because of its good solubility in EC:ADN solution compared to LiPF6 and a less corrosive behavior towards Al than LiTFSI. Two cathode materials were used to study battery performance, commercial LiCoO2 (4.2 V) and the high voltage material LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 (4.9 V).
