Skiing (Alpine, Nordic, Road, Track)

2021
“When going downhill, the skier leans on his pole and closes his eyes. Then he goes straight and continues until he can no longer breathe. He then throws himself on the side in the snow and waits to catch his breath, then he launches straight on until he still loses his breath and throws himself in the snow, and so on to the bottom.” This chapter approaches the current traumatic pathology of a standard population based on an analysis over a period of 60 years, the activity of a trauma and sports service located “at the foot of the slopes” at the southern hospital of Grenoble. Moreover, it discusses specific traumatic pathology of high-level skiers from the monitoring of competitors in the French team.
