Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) promoter directed tissue specific gene expression in CEA expressing tumour cells

1995
Transcriptionally directed gene therapy is a promising genetic mechanism for the treatment of cancer [1]. TGT is based on delivery of a gene that will be specifically expressed in cancer cells but not in normal cells by exploiting the transcriptional differences between normal and neoplastic cells. The delivered and expressed gene may then confer selective sensitivity to a chemotherapeutic agent, deliver another gene to enhance the immune response to the tumor or it may correct a genetic defect.
