The environment in the fertilizer complex is highly corrosive to the structural members due to the varied nature of the raw materials, intermediates and end products being handled. The conditions varies from highly acidic to highly alkaline. The emission of corrosive salts coupled with moist gases aggravate the deterioration of the structurals.
